"I think if one of the five members is gone, then this wouldnt be DBSK. Only if the five of us are together and feel the same, then that's when we use the name DBSK and show ourselves as DBSK." -Changmin

Five-member Korean boy band TVXQ continues to dominate the Japanese market as their 29th single, “Break Out,”
has now officially reached platinum status.

According to the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ), an association of different record labels,
this ranking is based on the period stretching from January 1 to 31.

Based on RIAJ’s criteria, singles and albums are certified Gold with 100,000 in sales, Platinum with 250,000 and
Million with one million in sales.

According to Japan’s Oricon chart, “Break Out” has already sold 255,917 copies just a week after its release on
January 27. It is the only single that was certified platinum during the period. “Gloria” by Japanese singer Yui
and “Bless” by Japanese rock band L'Arc-en-Ciel reached gold status.

TVXQ has successfully penetrated the Japanese market since releasing their first Japanese album in 2006.

With the success of “Break Out,” the boy band is now the top-selling foreign artist in Japan.

The Japanese single topped Oricon’s monthly chart, a first for TVXQ.

TVXQ broke the record for foreign artists with the most number of copies sold during the first week for a single.

“Break Out” ended the 12-year-old record of “Candle in the Wind” by Elton John.
The song, a tribute to the late Princess Diana, sold 184,000 copies on its first week.

Japan is the second biggest music market in the world after the US.
