DBSK was in 27th of 2009 pop culture leading power 30. (No activity in Korea in 2009 but still on TOP XD)

Major criteria for the selection includes ▶Cultural and social influence ▶Power to move the public ▶Economic importance and influence in the business of public culture and so on. Even though the activity made throughout this year had a great influence in the selection, we also carefully considered symbolic power, representation, popularity and so on.

The survey was conducted on 64 businessmen, who are working in the related fields of public culture, for a week starting the 9th of December. Method of the survey was for the subject to select 5 comprehensive ‘power-leaders’ that compositely cover all broadcasting, music businesses, singers etc., and to select 2 people representing each category. We applied different weights for their ranks, the ‘comprehensive’ #1 to #5 were each given 5 to 1 points, and each category’s #1 and #2 were recorded as 2 and 1 points each. These points were summed up, and hence the best public culture leaders of 2009 were selected.

[INFO] TVXQ Attending TBS’ Year-End Program For The Third Year

TVXQ will attend Japan's TBS CDTV Premiere Live for the third year.

Through a message on their official Japanese website, TVXQ has confirmed that it will attend the year-end program on the 31st from 11:45PM to 5AM. They spent their last moments of 2007 and 2008 here as well, so it's essentially a tradition for the group.

Despite the issues that TVXQ has with SM Entertainment, their Japanese company Avex has a full schedule for them. The quintet will be attending the Japan Record Awards on the 30th and will also be attending NHK's program on the 31st, which is before the TBS program.

「The 60th NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen Rehearsal」 (29th、NHK Hall)

Korea's popular group Tohoshinki, who is attending Kouhaku Uta Gassen for the second consecutive time in two years, also attended the rehearsals held on the 29th. In the midst of disbanding rumours, their rehearsal was not revealed to the press. The 5 members were unable to respond to interviews, and the mood was one of high alert.

On the Internet, fans have been expressing their worries - "This might be the last Kouhaku Uta Gassen where you can see all 5 of them together." In the midst of that, the 5 members of Tohoshinki participated in the rehearsal held at NHK Hall, at 7pm, which was after the "interview period".

Rumours of disbanding emerged in July when the 3 members, Jejung, Junsu and Yuchun, came into conflict with their management company over their exclusive contracts. They attracted a lot of overseas attention when the 5 of them did not perform together in Korea even once, after the outbreak of the conflict, but continued to appear on Japanese television. However, in the middle of this month, an event that was planned to be held in Japan in January (10 performaces) was suddenly cancelled, and the fan's worries about their disbandment grew even more.

It has not been decided yet, as to whether or not they will be having promotions for the remaining contract they still have with 「Oronamin C Drink」, their new single 「BREAK OUT!」 which will be released on 27 January, and their 'Best Album' which will be released on 17 February.

The fans' wish for the New Year is "peaceful settlement". They'll be keeping a close watch on whether or not the year-end performances will be their last.

5 member group TVXQ, who is currently active in Japan, has been picked as one of the most successfully active celebrities of this year.

TSUTAYA, Japan's biggest CD-DVD chain store, conducted a survey from November 19th to December 1st asking people who they thought were the 'Most successfully active celebrities of 2009' and revealed the results.

According to the results, TVXQ ranked 2nd following Arashi and this proved that the group was extremely popular this year in Japan.

Chinese fans of group TVXQ, whose certain members are locked in a dispute with their agency, released an ad in a daily Korean newspaper to commemorate the group's 6th anniversary since their debut and the fans pressured the agency by saying, "Stop harassing TVXQ."

'Baidu BAR', a Chinese fan group in China's biggest portal site Baidu, released an ad on the front page of Korea's Gyunghyang Newspaper on the 26th. In the ad, they said, "You are trying to cut the dreams the five have been creating for the past six years and you are hurting the hearts of hundreds of thousands of people who were happy because of the five of them. [Sina Entertainment News] The day before, Hangeng, the only Chinese member of Asia's super popular group, Super Junior, filed for a termination of his "exclusive contract" with SM Entertainment. According to the latest news from Korea, Hangeng is not the only one who filed the lawsuit. Other Super Junior members have also filed a similar lawsuit, and they include: Lee Teuk, Yesung, Kangin, Eun Hyuk and Donghae. The only reason why news about Hangeng was exposed first, is because of his nationality.

According to the lawsuit, Hangeng has not had any rest in 2 years, causing him to suffer from fatigue, which also resulted in chronic gastritis, illnesses related to his kidney, lumbar disc herniation, as well as a visible decrease in body strength. However, SM Entertainment rejected Hangeng's requests for rest, and continued to schedule activities for him, which caused Hangeng to suffer a lot of pain.

According to the contents of the lawsuit, since the time of his debut, Hangeng didn't even have one day of rest per week. For 2 years, Hangeng has continuously done his overseas schedules as well, and had no choice but to continue with his schedules without any rest. In his contract with SM, there are clauses stating that he has to pay the company monetary damages should he be unable to fulfill the schedules arranged for him. Thus, even when he was in poor health, he had no choice but to follow through with his schedules.

Once the news broke out, many fans have expressed the wish for SM and the members to be able to make peace, and make changes to their contracts, as well as expressed hope that Super Junior will not face the threat of disbanding.

[NEWS] 091223 Carol Sung by TVXQ 5 Years Ago is Most Downloaded Song This Winter

It has been found that a carol sung by TVXQ five years ago is the most downloaded song this winter amongst K-pop fans.

Music site Monkey3 accumulated the number of times carols and Christmas-related songs by domestic singers were downloaded from November 19th till December 15th in their ‘Agree’ corner and released the ‘K-pop Carol Song Best 10′ list on the 23rd.

According to their statistics, the song ‘Santa Claus is coming to town’, included in TVXQ’s album ‘Christmas Gift from TVXQ’ that was released in December of 2004, ranked as the most downloaded song. The song attracted fans as the members sang the famous carol a cappella.

In second place was ‘Merry-Chri’ by BoA which was released by BoA in 2005 in Japan before it was released domestically. This song is still being loved in Japan as a Christmas Season song.

Third place went to SG Wannabe’s ‘Christmas Story’ and fourth place went to TVXQ and Super Junior’s ‘Show Me Your Love’ and ‘I’m your man’.

[NEWS] 091224 Japanese Fans to Raise a Whopping Five Million Yen for Newspaper Ad

TVXQ/DBSK supporters in the motherland and overseas have been riveted by the SME lawsuit for the past few months, and it looks like a certain group of international fans is really stepping up their game.

Five Balloons, a group of Japanese TVXQ supporters, recently created the TVXQ Smile Project, in which members donated money to put an advertisement in a daily Korean newspaper. Its monetary goal for Christmas? A whopping five million yen, which is approximately 64,400,000 won, $54,700 USD, or the price of a pretty nice sports car. [ omitted ]

The ad is expected to include the words 'TVXQ Smile Project,' a message about TVXQ's entity as a group only complete with five members, and a promise to forever love TVXQ and wait for them to sincerely smile.

As of yesterday, over four hundred participants collectively donated 1,764,000 yen (approx 22,700,000 won or $19,400 USD). Since this doesn't meet the initial December 25 goal, the members plan to extend the period of donation collections and purchase the ad in mid-January.

[TRANS] 091223 Junsu, a Perfect Mozart Make Over

Junsu pictures dressed in Musical ‘Mozart’ costumes had been released.

The publisher company, EMK Musical Company, reported that after Junsu dressed in Mozart costumes pictures were published, the third round ticket held on December 21st were sold out in the following 3 hours at 13:30.

On the 18th, Junsu went into studio for photoshoot at Samsung-dong, Seoul. To deliver a perfect Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart figure, his hair was styled and dressed up in the costumes as well.

Junsu representative said, “The costume was made by special request to a Japanese embroidery experts. We also used human hair wigs, so it took time to produce the wigs in different size that will fit each actor’s head.”

After the shoots, Junsu started to concentrate on his ‘Mozart’ practice. Junsu will be featured as ‘Mozart’ stage that will kick off on January 20th until February 21st at Sejong Cultural Center Grand Theater.

“They are not Hallyu stars!”

The term ‘Hallyu stars’ refers to celebrities who are already popular in Korea, yet they go to other countries (including Japan) and hold a short-term event in the destination country to get more income and fans.

And they (TVXQ) are not Hallyu stars!
They are local stars! (T/N: from word ‘localization’)

What does mean by local star is… the artists must go along with Japanese method/system, make debut as rookies in J-POP and do entertainment activities according to system that is ruled for rookie in the local industry. Regardless the treatment they have for their star status in their home country, these artists have to work hard and make all great efforts as rookie.

The term ‘Hallyu stars’ have also been recognized in Japanese entertainment industry, therefore for a program from such big TV channel, the program officials should have been more careful and look for more understanding on the differences between localization and Hallyu.

These protests and opinions from Cassiopeia were revealed through a preliminary survey before the broadcast, however since the broadcast time is approaching thus program officials couldn’t modify the program’s content in sudden, SBS offered to write apology sentences for having mistaken in describing TVXQ as Hallyu stars on their homepage and will also display news ticker about the protest directly during the broadcasts.

he 23rd SBS ‘News Track’ will broadcast a flashback of 10 years Korean market in Japan. The first issue of ‘News Track’ is going cover a debate of the over 5 years Japan career of Asia group TVXQ who is currently in disbanding issue and examines the impact of the disbanding to Hallyu wave.

From the called of “All Hallyu fans are ahjummas” to the broadened age range of TVXQ Hallyu fans to the 20th females, TVXQ achieves over ₩ 90,000,000,000 in 2009 for Japan market alone from the sales of their music records and DVDs thus is ranked the third as artists with most sales. [TRANS] 091221 Exclusive: Hangeng Files For Termination Of Contract With SM

T/N: Translating this because it might turn out to be relevant to the TVXQ case in the long run.

According to Korean news sources, Sina reports that Hangeng from Super Junior, one of Asia's top idol groups, have applied with the Seoul Central District Court for the termination of his 'exclusive contract' with SM Entertainment. This is another bomb that dropped on SM Entertainment since the 3 members of TVXQ, Park Yoochun, Kim Jaejoong and Kim Junsu filed to terminate their contracts in July this year.

In 2001, Hangeng was chosen out of 3000 participants for the "H.O.T China" auditions held by SM Entertainment based on his looks and talent in dancing. After years of training in singing, dancing, acting, instruments and languages, Hangeng debuted as the only Chinese member of Super Junior in 2005, and became the first Chinese to officially debut in South Korea. In April 2008, he was appointed the leader of sub-group SJ-M and began activities in China. Due to his outstanding work, he played an important role in aiding SM in breaking into the China market.

Amongst the youth and media, Hangeng has very high EQ and speaking abilities, and his 'sunshine' and hardworking image left a deep impression. Before this, there were many speculations, and even expectations, that he might go solo. His lawyer has expressed that the full details of the case cannot be revealed yet. However, according to the informant, it might be because there are interference to his solo work progress, and thus resulted in his unhappiness with SM Entertainment.

[NEWS] 091221 Junsu's 3 Musical Performances Sold Out!

Junsu, from the acappella idol group TVXQ, shows his explosive popularity in his first musical "Mozart"!

This is the first time that the musical "Mozart" from Vienna, Austria, will be performing in Korea, and the tickets went on sale at 9am and 2pm of the 21st, so one can imagine the height of Junsu's popularity.

After news came out that Junsu will be performing in the musical Mozart, all 6,000 tickets for the first show was sold out. The 8 days following the sale for the second show, the reservation site has been on overtime. Within 2 hours, there were 15,000 reservation requests for a seat in a hall that only has 3,000 capacity.

Junsu, who depicts the main character Wolfgang Mozart in the musical, will be performing with Lim Tae Kyung, Park Gun Hyung and Park Eun Tae.

Paradise Ranch filming cancellation has already been out for 4 month… The filming that was suppose to be in the summer, there hasn’t been confirmed filming schedule until winter. After all the talk of beginning film in August, September, October, November, Paradise Ranch filming has finally begun this month.

The weather is now cold. Our original plans of t-shirt turned into coats… At last, the filming begins.
Two days after filming schedule released, we began collecting gifts for the casts (T/N: pardon my translation here). Filming under -11 degrees Celsius is very hard. As Changmin’s fans, we can feel the hardship.

The two members of TVXQ, U-Know Yunho and Choikang Changmin were spotted to attend SNSD first solo concert.

SNSD opened their first solo concert, ‘Into The New World’ on the 20th afternoon at Olympic Park Fencing Stadium, Seoul after debuted for two years and five months.

The appearance of 2 TVXQ members U-Know Yunho and Choikang Changmin in SNSD concert which mobilizes 13,000 audiences surely rose cheers and attracted many attention. However, this incident also made many speculations and opinions regarding the current dispute of their label SM Entertainment with the rest 3 members Jaejoong, Junsu, and Yoochun. Yunho and Changmin were spotted to come to the concert venue a bit early and watched the 3 hours performance until the very end.

I heard from the staffs that they have been receiving different opinions regarding the fact that Junsu's solo is going to become the coupling song of the new single.

This is something that has been decided in the beginning of the year, as a part of Tohoshinki's solo project.

In Japan, Jaejoong and Yoochun released their own single, and in Korea, Jaejoong and Yunho both took part in their own dramas.

And now Changmin is also going to act in his own drama. These are all parts of the solo project.

At first, avex and SM were thinking of having solo projects that are suitable to each member's own special ability.

Of course, we are also under consideration to release Yunho's solo song, so please do not worry about that.

[NEWS] 091220 TVXQ Received Hallyu Tourism Achievement Award

On the 19th, 19:00 at Yonsei University, Seoul was held the 100th anniversary of ‘2009 Hallyu Tourism Night’ by Korea National Tourism Organization. The former idea of this event is to celebrate the surpass of 7 million foreign tourists visit to Korea on last November 23rd.

Korea National Tourism Organization, “In mid-December, it’s certain that Japanese tourists’ visits to the country will break 3 million for the first time. So far, among foreign tourists visiting Korea, Japanese are the most, thus to achieve another increase in spreading the ‘Hallyu wave’, this event was designed.” explaining the purpose of ‘2009 Hallyu Tourism Night’.

In the event, various video promotions starring Lee Byung-hoon, Song Seung-hun, Ji Jin-hee, Son Ho Young, Andy, FT Island, and Kim Joon to emerge Korea tourism was shown. [TRANS] 091219 TVXQ Earns 90.3 billion Won In Album/DVD Sales In Japan This Year

Popular group TVXQ place third in highest earning Japanese artistes in album sales in 2009.

According to Oricon’s ‘2009 Oricon Yearly Ranking’ that was released on the 18th that accumulates all singles, albums and DVDs, TVXQ placed third after Arashi and EXILE. 4th and 5th place went to B’z and the Beatles respectively.

Arashi, who placed first, earned a total of 14.6 billion Yen in single, album and DVD sales, and EXILE and TVXQ earned 12.93 billion Yen and 6.89 billion Yen (around 90.3 billion Won or $76 million) respectively.

Oricon introduced TVXQ as “The group that made the biggest leap in 2009 and is continually growing at the fastest rate,” and said, “They were perfectly balanced in all areas and this was the year fans passionately supported them.”
